Vivimarie VanderPoorten will read her poetry and talk about her influences. Vivimarie is a poet of great sensitivity, as well as humour, who has lived through turbulent times, both personal and national, in her native Sri Lanka. She is Senior Lecturer in Language Studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka and has just completed her doctoral thesis on language policy implementation and the politics of bilingual education at the University of Ulster. Her first volume, nothing prepares you" (2007), won her country's most prestigious literary award and her second,stitch your eyelids up (2010), is written with the same economy of expression and emotional impact as the first. Wine will be served following the presentation. |
